Sam Sulek, arguably the most popular and well-loved fitness and bodybuilding influencer on the face of YouTube today, also happens to be a pretty passionate watch collector.

Seeing one of our favorite massive human beings who started out colliding with everybody's favorite YouTube watch expert and retailer, Teddy Baldassare, really threw us for a loop since most guys who operate such a high level in ultra-competitive sports such as bodybuilding usually only have lifting or dieting on their minds.

That is exactly why Sulek decided to distract himself from the grueling prep work required to stay massive and lean simultaneously for a 2024 professional bodybuilding competition.

It is wild to see him reach this level of success considering he started out just filming himself working out and having spirited solo conversations in his car.

Sulek's engineering tendencies and academic background naturally led him to the expansive hobby of watch collecting.

When Baldassare asked him how he fell into this rabbit hole most of us are already in, he said he started out with modding watch sites as he picked up components every corner of the internet.

"I'm talking AliExpress. Case, dial, hands... that little tinker ability kind of scratched the itch for me," the professional bodybuilder who holds a mechanical engineering degree said.

“Now, I mean, I've got too many," Sulek added, enumerating his collection of Breitlings, Tudors, and Grand Seikos.

Some of these specific models, such as the Citizen Eco-Drive CB0140, Tudor Black Bay Bronze, and his wedding watch Breitling, show a lot of personal taste that doesn't just hinge on what's popular in the watch world.

Baldassarre toured Sulek around his luxury boutique in his hometown of Ohio, where his massive forearms and build made for an interesting song and dance of which watch measurement would actually fit his frame. He revealed that his sweet spot ranges anywhere from 39mm to 45mm.

The walkthrough included several major heritage watch brands such as Longines, Omega, Glashütte Original, and Blancpain.

Sulek ended up picking a watch that was very fitting for a man of his stature (both in influence and in literal physiology), the Omega Seamaster PloProf 1200M with a Summer Blue Dial.

The watch has 70s-era proportions with a massive 55 x 45 mm case diameter with a monobloc or single-piece case instead of screw-in casebacks.

It's the kind of piece that isn't for everyone and understandably doesn't fly off the shelves at retailers because of how massive and how almost comical it is, unless you're Sam Sulek and it is very in character.

One thing you can't deny about the colossus of a man: he has character when it comes to watches.
