What a time to be Tom Holland right now. Between Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, he's been in two of the year's biggest films. But there's a smaller story unfolding on his wrist, one that's easy to miss between the red carpet camera flashes: Tom Holland, it turns out, is a watch guy.

He's been quietly building quite the collection these past few years, pictured wherever he goes in something expensive from the likes of Cartier, Patek Philippe, Piaget and, of course, Rolex. It's a collection that deserves, no, requires, deeper analysis. So, elapsed-time bezels at the ready... Let's dive in.

During a recent interview with his namesake Tom Holland, the historian-turned-podcaster, he wore a Rolex Daytona Cosmograph. More than that, it was forged in platinum for the 60th anniversary of the iconic racing watch.

This particular model has a dial in ice blue with a bezel and sundials in chestnut brown, not to mention – per Rolex – “18 ct gold applique hour markers and hands with a Chromalight display”. Oh, and it costs £70,500 new.

In 2018, not long after his first turn as the webbed-fingered swinger in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Holland attended the Wimbledon men’s finals in a Ralph Lauren Purple Label suit and a Patek Philippe Aquanaut in rose gold (rather than the usual steel) with a brown dial and rubber strap.

Its rounded octagonal bezel is billed as being “reminiscent of the Nautilus” (that’s the fictional submarine in Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea) with a matching checkerboard-patterned dial and strap. Price: £43,200 (though can fetch up to £76,000 on the resale market).

Piaget Altiplano Skeleton (G0A40033)

2018 was a great vintage for Tom Holland’s watch collection. On the red carpet of the 90th Academy Awards, the twinkle in his eye was matched only by the twinkle on his wrist thanks to a Piaget Altiplano Skeleton in a 38mm white gold case. This thin little automatic has a sapphire crystal case back and a 1200S black-hued self-winding calibre, apparently the thinnest mechanical skeleton movement in the world (2.40 mm), according to Piaget. This is a very rare piece – Piaget only made 150 units. As such, it’s a “price on inquiry” deal. Its resale value, though, is around £16,000.

Holland has a handful (or wristful) of Cartiers in his collection – he wears them all the time. One of the nicest is this, best -known for its unique cushion-shaped case. It comes in a variety of materials, but Holland is not a man to choose something so mundane as steel. His is rose gold, set with a faceted sapphire, a silvered flinqué dial, large Roman numerals, blued-steel sword-shaped hands. And it shows the moon’s phases at 6 o’clock. It’s worth about £10,000 on the resale market.

Rolex GMT Master II ‘Batman’

A man on a roll. He owns – or should I say, has been pictured wearing – many a Rolex, from chronograph to GMT Master II. This one is in informally known as “The Batman” on account of the black and blue. He wore this one at the Spanish premiere of the 2022 movie Uncharted, in which he starred with Mark Wahlberg. You can get one new from Rolex for £10,050.

Rolex Submariner ‘Kermit’

As every watch collector knows, it’s called the “Kermit” – sometimes “the Starbucks” – because of its green bezel. But it might just as well be called “The Envy”, as one of the most recognisable and sought-after timepieces in the world. The “Kermit” has a black dial, which shouldn’t be confused with the green-dialled model – that’s called “The Hulk”. This one is 41mm, in oystersteel with a Cerachrom bezel insert in green ceramic and a black dial, on an oyster bracelet. But it’s best known for the rotatable bezel, first introduced in the 1960s so divers could safely track their diving time and decompression breaks. Price: £9,950.

Rolex Daytona ‘Panda’

Named “The Panda” for obvious reasons – the black counter rings on a white dial looks like a panda’s face. Ironic, you might think, to name a watch designed for high-speed racing drivers after one of the most famously lazy animals on earth. Paul Newman was the Rolex Panda’s most famous wearer, and celebrities with cash to burn have worn them ever since. Holland was pictured wearing his on a visit to the SiriusXM Studios In New York with Mark Wahlberg to promote Uncharted. Price: £14,050.

The Cartier Santos design itself dates to 1904 when Louis Cartier promised his friend, the famed Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont ,that he would create a watch that could keep time at high altitude. It became one of the earlist, and most iconic, wristwatch designs in history. Now, they come in a variety of materials. Tom’s is steel, with a silvered opaline dial, blued sword-shaped hands, and the QuickSwitch system that lets you swap between the steel bracelet and a calfskin strap without tools. It's the large model – 39.8mm – powered by Cartier's in-house automatic caliber 1847 MC, and retails for £7,900.
