The Pixies Poured Their Heart Out in 2016 and You Didn't Even Notice
It's about damn time we dove into the Pixies' catalog before their Manila show in May

The decade-old Pixies track "All I Think About Now" is surprisingly one of the band's most-streamed songs despite being a recent cut from the legendary rock group.
With former bassist Paz Lenchantin on vocals, the song echoes their iconic hit "Where Is My Mind?" while serving as a heartfelt tribute to original bassist Kim Deal.
The 2016 cut came across our streaming feeds as we strapped in to do the necessary prep work to brace for the massive Pixies 40 World Tour, which includes a Manila stop at the Filinvest Tent organized by Karpos Live.
"All I Think About Now" slowly assimilated into our daily music rotation as we sat down to listen to the largely underrated Head Carrier (2016) record that came during their post-reunion era.
To our ears, it is one of the most cohesive comeback records the band put out, with criminally overlooked bass work from Lenchantin and of course, her passionate vocal performance on this track.
Sonically, we can't really deny the similar lead lines in "All I Think About Now" and "Where Is My Mind?" This guitar work from the legendary Filipino-American guitarist Joey Santiago showcases some of his best work when he lets his melodic notes take space and lets his feel-based playing shine.
"Remember when we were happy?/ If I'm late, can I thank you now?" Lenchantin croons, which are lines understood to be a display of gratitude to her predecessor, Deal. The measured, contemplative pace of the song and the looping guitar riff deliberately channel "Where Is My Mind?" as a sonic callback to Deal's legacy.
Compared to other tracks in their catalog such as "Debaser" and Deal-era tracks like "Gigantic," it is a rare spectacle to hear someone other than Black Francis on vocals. "All I Think About Now" has a very organic and live quality to it because of how airy and transparent the vocals are and the pulled-back production it has.
It is one of those tracks, which is somewhat of an outlier in the band's usual sonic palette, a tune that we sincerely hope is added to the band's Manila setlist.
