How Mk.gee's Quiet Cool Inspired Dior's Latest Show
From musicians chasing his signature tone to high fashion embracing his understated aesthetic.

Seasoned fashion designer Jonathan "JWA" Anderson found an unlikely inspiration in alternative music wizard Michael Todd "Mk.gee" Gordon for his latest Dior FW26-27 Homme runway.
He said he was pursuing a character study on personas and eccentricity to showcase on the runway at Musée Rodin on January 22, one of them being 20th-century designer Paul Poiret, and the other being the aforementioned surging modern-day guitar hero Mk.gee.
"I met him [Mk.gee] in Los Angeles, and he was not what I expected," Anderson said in an interview posted online. "It was like a cocoon, like the puffer, and another puffer layered... a leaner silhouette on the bottom but kind of a shyness to him... [which] I found kind of introverted."
Mk.gee's discordant and dreamy song "Alesis," from his acclaimed 2024 album Two Star & the Dream Police, both opened and closed the Dior runway show—a fitting choice to encapsulate the musician's brooding, introspective artistry reflected throughout the collection.

When we think of Mk.gee's fashion, we associate him with semi-corpcore leanings: ties, dress shirts, and layered jackets that mirror the nostalgic, understated suave of his Two Star & The Dream Police record—evoking the same effortless coolness as the late, great Prince.
He also favors vintage band tees, raw denim, and Timberland boots. Even in 2020, he was already leaning preppy, pairing buttoned-up looks with long locks and a brooding demeanor.

Mk.gee's entire sonic identity is this ethereal and lo-fi texture that is oddly comfortable to exist within. That's not far off from his own fashion sense and why being a muse for a Dior runway show is such an intriguing collision of worlds.
His distinct shaggy hair and loose wardrobe were on full display on the runway in the use of colorful wigs and layered overcoats. This isn't Mk.gee's first foray into the world of high fashion as he had played a few of his Two Star & the Dream Police tunes at Jil Sander's Fall/Winter 2024 show in Milan.
Could we someday see the music savant as a model or ambassador for Dior or any other high-fashion player?
"Ultimately the way in which I work is collecting all these different experiences throughout the process and then kind of infiltrating them in," said Anderson.
