What does ₱2,000 get you? Everything you actually need from a watch, and proof that anyone charging you more is selling you a story, not function.
The Casio MRW-200H is a criminally underrated everyman piece built for men who roll their sleeves up and get stuff done. This military-style explorer makes a beeline for the Japanese brand's reputation of "this shouldn't be this good for how little this costs."
You're getting a military-inspired dial reminiscent of far more expensive Swiss brands, but without the visual clutter and a lightweight form factor that almost makes you forget you're wearing the damn thing.
Different colorways and variations of the Casio MRW-200H
Affectionately tagged with the moniker "Diet G-Shock" by watch aficionados online, the so-called sleeper hit of the Casio family has been a cult classic since its release in 2011.
You would think this piece would be a chonker, but it actually wears smaller than what the 44.6mm resin case suggests on paper. The 47.9mm lug-to-lug form factor keeps things manageable even for the smaller-wristed gentleman, especially in the Philippine market.
The watch also features great legibility with a matte black dial, thick white Arabic numerals, and no-frills hour hands that offer exceptional contrast. The tank of a watch is powered by a 5125 quartz movement with ±20 seconds monthly accuracy.
Surprisingly, think of the Rolex Explorer II and the similar design ethos it employs. The Rolex, which goes for a whopping ₱500,000, is the pinnacle of tool watches and utilitarian appeal. Casio's MRW-200H gets you about 95 percent of the functionality and replaceability factor because of how dirt cheap it is.
Get the Casio MRW-200H, which doesn't apologize for its resin case or plastic crystal, but delivers on what matters: reliability and that flair reserved for astronauts and those who venture out to do something worthwhile.
