Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) signaled a renewed commitment to electrification, heritage, and market leadership with the simultaneous launch of the new Honda CR-V lineup and the commemorative 30th Anniversary Pearl Edition of the Honda City during a showcase weekend-long event at the Glorietta Palm Drive Activity Center in Makati City.
The dual reveal underscores Honda's ability to straddle two critical pillars of the Philippine automotive market: the highly competitive SUV segment, where the CR-V has long been a cornerstone model, and the subcompact passenger car segment, where the City continues to enjoy remarkable longevity and consumer loyalty.
For Honda, the CR-V has historically served as both a technological flagship and a volume driver in the local market. Since its Philippine debut in the late 1990s, the CR-V has played a crucial role in sustaining the brand's share in the fast-growing SUV and crossover categories, segments that have gradually overtaken traditional sedans in consumer preference.
The newest CR-V iteration pushes the nameplate further into electrified territory with two new e:HEV hybrid variants and a refined turbocharged gasoline option.

Leading the lineup is the CR-V 2.0 RS e:HEV AWD E-CVT, positioned as a premium sporty hybrid with Real-Time All-Wheel Drive capability, improving stability and traction across varying road conditions. It has a price tag of P2.84 million with an introductory price of P2.79 million.
Joining it is the CR-V 2.0 VX e:HEV E-CVT, which focuses on delivering refined comfort and efficiency for traveling both within and beyond the city. It is priced at P2.49 million with an introductory price of P2.44 million.

Completing the range is the CR-V 1.5 V Turbo HuNT CVT, the sole petrol-powered variant that retains the model's adventurous performance identity while introducing exclusive styling cues designed specifically for the Philippine market. It has a price tag of P2.40 million with an introductory price of P2.30 million.
All variants come with a redesigned cabin featuring premium soft-touch surfaces, expanded cargo configurations, and a three-zone climate control system calibrated for Philippine heat and humidity.
At the core of the hybrid variants is Honda's 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine paired with a dual-motor electric system, producing a combined output that prioritizes both performance and fuel efficiency.
The VX e:HEV achieves an impressive 29.4 km/L in urban testing, while the AWD-equipped RS variant delivers 21.3 km/L, figures that place Honda squarely in the country's accelerating shift toward electrified mobility. Honda Cars president Rie Miyake announced that the new CR-V models carry an 8-year warranty or 160,000 km (whichever comes first) for its e:HEV variants.
Beyond powertrains, the CR-V reinforces Honda's safety and technology leadership. Standard across all variants are features like Blind Spot Information, Cross Traffic Monitor, Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and the comprehensive Honda SENSING suite, including the Collision Mitigation Braking System with pedestrian detection.
The setup uses millimeter-wave radar and a monocular camera to track surrounding traffic and intervene when the system detects an imminent collision. Convenience technology also receives a notable upgrade with Google Built-in integration and expanded Head-Up Display availability, further blending digital connectivity with everyday driving functionality.
The City Celebrates Three Decades of Philippine Relevance
While the CR-V points toward Honda's electrified future, the Honda City represents the brand's enduring legacy in the Philippines. HCPI confirmed that the City was first introduced to the local market in 1996 as a model developed primarily for Asian markets, with a timeline that marks 2026 as its 30th year in the country.

The Philippine market has been unusually loyal to the City nameplate. It routinely appears in monthly top-seller rankings, a consistency that reflects local buyers' preference for vehicles with proven fuel economy, low maintenance costs, and strong resale values.
The City has become dealership shorthand for dependable volume, the kind of model that anchors a brand's presence even as larger SUVs capture headlines and margins.
Over three decades, the City has evolved through five generations, along with numerous facelifts and special editions. It has grown into one of Honda Philippines' best-selling vehicles, surpassing 150,000 units sold since its debut.
The City's sustained success lies in its ability to balance accessibility and premium appeal. Powered by a 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine and equipped with Honda SENSING across all variants, the model has consistently attracted first-time buyers, young professionals, and growing families.
Its track record includes multiple industry recognitions, including the 2023 Best Sub-Compact Car award from the Car Awards Group, Inc. and ASEAN NCAP's Excellent Award for maintaining a consistent five-star safety rating.
To commemorate the milestone, HCPI introduced the City 30th Anniversary Pearl Edition for both the sedan and hatchback body styles.
The City 1.5 S CVT Honda SENSING 30th Anniversary Pearl Edition, priced at P1.00 million, features exclusive black exterior accents, including the grille, mirror covers, door handles, and alloy wheels, along with a dedicated anniversary emblem.
Meanwhile, the City Hatchback 1.5 RS CVT 30th Anniversary Pearl Edition, retailing at P1.30 million, adds a more aggressive styling package. Enhancements include a front under spoiler, extended rear bumper, exhaust finisher, and additional sporty garnishes, reinforcing the hatchback's youthful and lifestyle-focused character.
The hatchback itself represents the City's modern expansion strategy, having been introduced locally in 2021. Since then, it has sold over 3,700 units and garnered multiple awards for design, safety, and engine performance in the subcompact hatchback category.
This dual strategy arrives as Honda navigates intensifying pressure from Chinese automakers pushing aggressively priced EVs and traditional Japanese rivals deploying their own hybrid and electrified platforms across Southeast Asia.
The simultaneous unveiling of the electrified CR-V and the commemorative City variants reflects Honda's multi-layered approach to the Philippine automotive landscape.
While SUVs continue to drive profitability and brand prestige, models like the City sustain long-term volume and customer retention, a balance that has allowed HCPI to remain competitive despite intensifying market pressure from emerging Asian brands and new energy vehicle entrants.
By expanding hybrid offerings in the CR-V while celebrating the City's legacy of accessibility and reliability, Honda positions itself as both forward-looking and deeply rooted in Philippine motoring culture, a combination that remains vital in one of Southeast Asia's most dynamic automotive markets.
