Hardcore fans of Japanese animation, film, and the marvels of meticulous watchmaking should really be looking into these Seiko watches made in collaboration with the legendary Studio Ghibli, which we are kicking ourselves for missing out on during the initial 2021 and 2024 hype.
These limited edition pieces are odes to Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, and Porco Rosso, which aren't necessarily the most popular Ghibli films but have their place among the beloved works spawned from the generationally brilliant mind of Hayao Miyazaki.
These Seiko watches won't come cheap since they are part of the highly-regarded Presage line of timepieces, which you can expect to go for a pretty penny.
The Japanese watch juggernaut named this special collection the Presage Craftsmanship Series since these timepieces are outfitted with enamel dials that encapsulate the expansive worlds of these cinematic masterpieces.
These watches will set you back around P84,000 retail, but since the 1,500 piece limited run has already ended, you are likely going to have to pay upwards of P100,000 in the secondhand market.

First we got a piece that honors one of the most nostalgic Ghibli films, Castle in the Sky, with an elegant form factor that transports you into Laputa, the city among the skies. The Seiko Presage Reference Number SPB215 is in our eyes one of the more conservative pieces of the Studio Ghibli watches, but is consequently the classiest and most rustic option.
In case you haven't seen the critically acclaimed feature film, it revolves around the adventures of a young boy and girl and their quest to reach the fabled floating city of Laputa. This is all while they are chased by air pirates and military agents who wish to seize and harness the mythical city's treasures and the heroine's magical levitation crystal.
The expertly crafted enamel dial, which was done by master craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa and his team of artists, features the crest on the mystical levitation crystal on the protagonist's pendant. Much like the other Ghibli watches, the display caseback showcasing the Caliber 6R31 also features inscribed illustrations depicting a key scene from the film.
This timepiece in particular features the protagonist's father catching sight of the fabled city. The piece features understated Roman numerals, an inner ring, vintage-looking hands and hour markers, and a stitched leather strap to round out a watch from a different time and dimension.
Seiko Presage "Porco Rosso"

Based on a fairly underrated film in Miyazaki's catalog, Porco Rosso, this Seiko piece is understandably inspired by 1920s aircraft technology that the pig people fly in the film.
The deep black dial features intricate hour markers around the warm enamel texture of the piece that evokes the materials used in the construction of early airplanes from the roaring 20s. It also houses the crest of the Savoia S.21 seaplane, which is the aircraft of choice of the anthropomorphic pig and titular protagonist.
This watch is no slouch either as it is backed by the advanced Caliber 8R48 with a 45 hour power reserve under a robust sapphire crystal. The caseback is also inscribed with Porco Rosso's face on it.
Seiko Presage "Nausicaa"

If you hold Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind as your favorite Miyazaki film, then we see you as someone who has a deep bag of knowledge in Japanese animation and the Studio Ghibli catalog. "Clothed in blue robes, descending onto a golden field," is not just an apt description of the film's princess protagonist, but also the aura this watch possesses.
This Presage piece is also outfitted with a pure blue enamel dial in honor of the heroine's symbolic blue outfit. Where this watch sets itself apart is the vintage-style finish and its textured, robust case to present the piece as a well-worn tool.
The crown is where this watch shines, a distinct shape fashioned after the eye of the Ohms, a giant trilobite-like species instrumental to the film's plot.
