Toyota Motor Philippines has tapped its luxury brand, Lexus, to deploy a fleet of hybrid electric vehicles for heads of state and delegates across Cebu and Manila for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit.

As the ASEAN chair this year, the Philippines is hosting two leaders' summits: the 48th ASEAN Leaders' Summit taking place May 8 to 9 in Cebu, and the 49th slated for November 10 to 12 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila. Heads of state from the region will tackle issues such as regional security, energy, food security, and economic cooperation among the 11 member states.

The luxury brand will field its LS500 sedan and LM350 minivan for summit engagements under Manila's chairship theme of "Navigating Our Future, Together.

According to Toyota Motors Philippines President Masando Hashimoto, deploying these hybrid cars aims to show that security and sustainability goals are their utmost priority, especially at these high-level diplomatic functions.

The Japanese carmaker will also be providing shuttle vans for working members of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council covering the ASEAN-BAC 106th Council Meeting, the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit, and the ASEAN Business Awards. Manila is also at the helm of these crucial summits under the theme "Advancing Prosperity for All."

Earlier, the ASEAN National Organizing Council noted that the use of electrified vehicles abided by the summit agenda topics on environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and energy security.

"Through our electrified lineup, we are providing more than just transport for the region’s highest-level engagements, but we are also showcasing a forward-thinking pathway to electrified elegance that prioritizes both quiet refinement and our collective responsibility toward a greener, more resilient ASEAN," said Hashimoto.
