The feature cross-references your listening preferences with quite possibly those of your future spouse.
The whole process culminates in an endearing shared playlist that is supposed to encapsulate your shared music tastes of varying obscurity and culture.
How Spotify Actually Determines Your Compability
The "Match Made" feature is directly on the Spotify app if you dare face the truth and get the Magic 8-Ball rolling by entering your crush's favorite song or artist, or maybe just the one you think they have on repeat.
You then have to frantically shake your black slab of a device we call a smartphone to allow the app to analyze listening data.
A result will then pop up with the ultimate compatibility tier being "Cosmic-Level Compatibility," and if you're not so lucky, a bunch of Magic 8-Ball phrases that spell out your misfortune of incompatibility. It's okay, your taste was probably way too obscure (or so you tell yourself).
At its core, the "Match Made" feature goes straight to the source of one of the main modern wrinkles of a person's dateability: authentic music listening habits and sonic DNA as a whole.
While it is obviously not the end-all-be-all for discerning who your next life partner will be, getting a Cosmic-Level result does tell you if you are handing your love interest the aux cord during your next getaway.
