In case you want to be in the know about the latest basketball happenings in the Metro, here's one you should know about: Sportswear brand ANTA brought the Shock The Game tournament to Manila and it's where basketball fans can enjoy watching a fresh spin on the country's favorite sport. Best part? You're invited to watch the finals game live so you can join in on the excitement! It's happening this weekend—more on that later.

Here's everything you need to know about ANTA Shock The Game - Manila 2022:

The tournament originated in China.

Since ANTA has its roots in China, it's no surprise that the Shock The Game tournament originated in the mainland. Happening since 2017, the annual streetball event is held in 100 cities in China where more than a thousand teams get to battle it out, giving local undiscovered basketball talents a chance to shine. 

It's the first time that the sportswear brand is bringing the tournament outside of China.

Because the Philippines is huge on basketball, it makes perfect sense that it's the first country ANTA is bringing the Shock The Game tournament to outside of China. 

It's a different take on basketball.

Shock The Game puts a fresh spin on basketball. It's 4-on-4 full-court action and the first team to get 21 points in 15 minutes (whichever comes first) wins. The tournament encourages young basketball players to practice their creativity on the court with faster-paced gameplay for more exciting basketball games.

Dozens of teams participated in the elimination round.

In the Philippines, 64 teams battled it out the past two weekends with elimination legs held at UP Diliman, Treston International College, and San Beda Alabang in early October. The top four teams from each elimination round get to fight to the finish to become ANTA Shock The Game - Manila 2022 champions.

Ateneo, UP, CSB, and UST are some of the top teams.

The top 16 teams include Ateneo, UP, CSB, UST, San Beda, Adamson University, and AMA Computer College among others. These remaining teams will get to battle it out at the ANTA Shock The Game - Manila 2022 finals happening at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong City. 

The tournament, which has featured some of Manila’s popular DJs setting the vibe for the elimination games such as Aryan Magat, Rammy Bitong, Supmerman, and Lucio Pua among others, will also culminate with a special live performance by The Itchyworms on Saturday night. The winning team goes home with limited-edition ANTA products.
