Pia Wurtzbach is the star of Esquire's new cover story. In the interview, the beauty queen talks about her first novel Queen of the Universe, being an advocate for mental health and HIV/AIDS awareness, and the difficulties she went through.

“I knew that at some point in my life I wanted to open up about the mental health struggles that I went through, although I wasn’t sure when,” she says. “But when I was given the chance to do the TedX Talk and come up with my own topic, I thought that this was my opportunity to own the narrative of what I went through, instead of it coming from somebody else.” Here are 9 photos of Pia Wurtzbach from the cover shoot.
