Carlos and Zonta Club Makati's Exhibit Depicts Women Beyond Their Idealized Roles
Every year, Zonta International hosts "16 Days of Activism," an advocacy program that hopes to help eliminate violence against women and their children. The organization happens to be led by executives and professionals who empower women through their services. To get its point across, the Zonta Club Makati has partnered with one of the country's leading non-fungible token (NFT) artists, Carlos, to exhibit pieces that support its ideas and causes.
For Zonta, they wanted to depict women who aren't relegated to just their roles in the family. Their goal is to show the portraits of women beyond what they call "the literal." By this, they mean the prescribed "chosen roles" society has bestowed upon women. The paintings, we may observe, each offer women in their chosen professionals, with sculptures touching on figurative meanings, expressions, and ideas.
Carlos, a painter and sculptor whose career spans more than 40 years' worth of work, has expanded his practice to crypto art. In this exhibit, the artist lent several paintings and sculptures featuring women as his primary subject. The pieces feature Carlos' signature vibrance and distinctive color palette, with women set in idyllic scenes.

As one of the leading crypto artists, he will be featuring his NFT art, as well. When we think of his digital art, we think of work that isn't approached just as a means to secure ownership and provenance, but a way to express the optimism of his philosophy. Carlos' works epitomize the joy, warmth, and exuberance that goes beyond the canvas. For his art in this showcase, he collaborated with artist and motion designer Isaiah Cacnio, too. The partnership produced monochromatic versions of the paintings to life through choreographed colorization and animation.
