If you want to beef up your collection of Filipino masters and have no clue where your next big get will come from, a well-curated auction, whose lots are vetted by specialists for their provenance, importance, or workmanship, is your source for that very important conversation piece for the blank wall in the second foyer.

This Saturday, over 100 lots that represent the full spectrum of Philippine artistry will go under the hammer at Salcedo Auctions in Makati.

These include works from important academic and modern masters such as National Artists H.R. Ocampo, Jose Joya, Victorio Edades, Arturo Luz, Vicente Manansala, Ang Kiukok, and BenCab, Fernando Zobel, Romulo Olazo, Mauro Malang Santos, as well as leading contemporary artists Ronald Ventura, Rodel Tapaya, and more.

If art is not your thing (at the moment), you might want to take a look at the Philippine furniture, antiquities, and these pair of curios: a letter written by Juan Luna from Mazas Prison, Paris during his incarceration for the shooting of his wife and mother-in-law and one of the finest bul'uls to be offered at a public sale in recent memory. The latter is described as “heavily encrusted with blood patina dating from the 19th century or earlier.”
