The Palace has officially opened two heritage mansions within the Malacañang complex as part of its latest initiative to give the public a closer look at presidential history. With it, Bahay Ugnayan and the Teus Mansion will now be open to the public for free. Meanwhile, the Goldenberg Mansion will reportedly be converted into an events place.

“It is now open to the public. I invite everyone to come in there. Puntahan ninyo, lalo na ‘yung ating mga estudyante na nais makita ang lahat ng mga pangulo ng ating Republika ay nandiyan lahat," President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said during the opening ceremony last Tuesday, May 30, 2023. "Nandiyan ‘yung kaunting kuwento ng kanilang buhay at ngayon ay officially open na and that is why I am inviting everyone to come."

The mansions will be part of the new Malacañang Heritage Tours. According to the Presidential Communications Office, they should provide "a unique opportunity for individuals seeking a deeper appreciation for the remarkable past and distinguished leaders of the Philippines." These tours are reportedly part of first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos' efforts, as well.

Bahay Uganayan showcases memorabilia from President Marcos' 2022 campaign, which includes his “Road to Malacañang." This includes the electoral protest documents against former Vice President Leni Robredo after the 2016 elections. We may recall that the Supreme Court junked Marcos' protest in February 2021. Featured here, too, is an exhibition that shows barbed wire tied with a yellow ribbon, symbolic of the EDSA People Power Revolution that ousted Marcos' father.

The PCO explained that Bahay Uganayan should capture “the formative years of President Marcos, witness the defining moments of his tenure, and marvel at the campaign materials that paved the path to his presidency.”

Meanwhile, Teus Mansion houses memorabilia of past Philippine presidents. These used to be part of the Kalayaan Hall presidential museum and library. Here, we can find clothing and other items from Malacañang’s presidential families. The Goldenberg Mansion, once used as a guesthouse in the complex, on the other hand, will become a commercial spot that will host events, programs, and exhibits in the near future.
