The 2022 James Dyson Award Competition Is Now Open for Entries
For 30 years, Dyson has celebrated innovation by engineering high-quality products. As part of its commitment, the James Dyson Foundation launched the James Dyson Award competition—an international design award that celebrates, encourages, and inspires the designers of new problem-solving ideas—in 2007.
Through the years, the contest has awarded students in the fields of product design, industrial design, and engineering in countries like Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Poland, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Right now, the annual international design competition is entering its first stage for this year's edition as it is accepting submissions from young inventors. So, if you want to submit an entry, here's how to apply. Read the brief below.
Purposely broad and open-ended, the brief of the competition challenges young design engineers to 'design something that solves a problem'. Past winners have found solutions to plastic recycling accessibility, excessive blood loss from knife wounds, and improving at-home medical diagnostics. Sir James Dyson chooses the competition's global winners; they receive vital funding and high-profile recognition—key first steps to take their ideas into real-life practical application.
The James Dyson Award is open to university students of engineering, product design, and industrial design. Both individuals and teams are allowed to enter. Candidates can enter by filling up an online application form from the James Dyson Award website by midnight on July 3.
The winners will receive prize money (P330,000 for national winners and P1,970,000 for global winners), media attention, and past winner support.
