Twitter isn’t just a place for angry outbursts from billionaire businessmen, depressing updates from news sites, and sexual hookups. you look hard enough, you can find feel-good stories on the platform that’ll make your day. 

That’s what happened when we stumbled on this post by history professor Gregory Schnakenberg. Based on his profile, Schnakenberg is an assistant professor of ecclesiastical history and archivist at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington D.C., as well as a Dominican friar.

Over the weekend, he shared on Twitter about finding an old metal box that contained a roll of silent 8mm film with the title ‘The Philippines 1942.’

“Excited at possibly discovering lost WWII footage, I sent it to specialists for care and digitization,” he wrote.

While he didn’t find anything about the war, he did find something else that has captivated his followers and the internet. 

It was black-and-white footage of adorable puppies playing on the ground and tugging on a walis tambo.

His video post has since gone viral, amassing over 11.6 million views, and nearly 33,000 retweets as of Wednesday afternoon. 

“All these years of posting medieval manuscripts on Twitter and I just needed to post some puppies,” Schnakenberg replied to his own tweet of the video.

Another Twitter user named Daniel Hashimoto colorized the film, sharing his post with the caption: “colorized for fun” along with a dog emoji.
