Employers Would Still Rather Hire PUP Grads Than 'Big Four' Alumni
The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), a state-owned higher educational institution, topped the list of most preferred schools by employers hiring fresh graduate employees this year, online jobs portal JobStreet.com Philippines said..
PUP reclaimed the top spot in the widely-watched JobStreet annual survey after losing it to the University of the Philippines System and just placing second in 2017. It was No. 1 in the list in 2016.
Aside from the fact that most number of applications for job postings usually comes from PUP, employers also noted the school’s “reputation of producing quality graduates and eventually employees” as a reason for this, as well as the “positive attitude/work ethic of employees and applicants from this school.”
University of the Philippines (UP) System came second, while Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) ranked third.
“Top reasons of companies in hiring from particular schools range from company preference and quality of applicants and alumni to logistical factors,” the country’s leading online jobs portal wrote in its report.
UP also ranked as the top university employers consider in two of the seven industries listed by JobStreet.com: manufacturing and education. PUP ranked first in the BPO industry, while ADMU topped in retail. (See infographic for full list)
Moreover, two universities outside of Metro Manila made it to the top 10 list for the first time since the report was launched in 2014. These are University of San Carlos (rank 8) and University of Cebu (rank 9), which are both located in Cebu City.
The country’s leading recruitment site launched the 2018 Fresh Graduate Report on Wednesday, April 18, in Makati City. JobStreet.com surveyed a total of 503 employers last February in making the report.
