Michelle Yeoh Is Starring in American Born Chinese, A New Series on Disney+
Fresh from winning her Academy Award for Best Actress, Michelle Yeoh is starring in a new Disney+ series American Born Chinese, an action-comedy based on Gene Luen Yang’s graphic novel of the same title. The graphic novel American Born Chinese published in 2006 won the Eisner Award for Best Graphic Album, and the Printz Award from the American Library Association.
Jin Wang is an average high school student strjuggling to balance his social life with his home life. On the first day of the school year, he meets a foreign student, and they endure racist comments from their classmates and teachers. even more worlds collide as Jin is unwittingly entangled in a battle of Chinese mythological gods.
More than a story of ancient myths and legends, American Born Chinese, as the title suggests, ponders on questions about identity, heritage, belongingness, and social acceptance.
