Time and time again, we've been proven that all good things must come to an end. Yes, that includes the titular Ash Ketchum in Pokémon.

For more than 25 years, Ash has served as the de facto ambassador of the anime. He's practically the face of the whole thing, the trainer we all grew up with. In 2023, however, things are going to look way different, considering that we finally saw him become World Champion and top Pokémon trainer in Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series. This means that the next series will focus on new trainers who'll try to take that title.

Who will be these new trainers exactly? The pair goes by the names Liko and Roy. They'll be joined by starter Pokémon from the Paldea region, Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. These storylines are based on the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet videogames.

Ash was originally voiced by Veronica Taylor since the trainer's 1997 debut on television. Sarah Natochenny would late voice him in the English version. "No matter what lies beyond his final chapter, he’ll live forever in the hearts of many generations to come," the voice actor noted. "I'll keep him present for all of us in every way I can."

In January 2023, we're going to see the last of Ash when he appears in 11 episodes, where he is said to be reuniting with Brock, Misty, Gary, Team Rocket. Of course, Pokémon Pikachu is going to be with him for the last ride. Expect to see more surprises from the showrunners, as well.
