Avatar Is Getting an IMAX Remastered Release in Philippine Cinemas

As the Na'vi Nation (yes, us Avatar fans call ourselves that) painstakingly counts down the days until the long-long-long-awaited Avatar sequel The Way of Water finally drops in cinemas, it turns out we'll be able to whet our appetites for the bombastic, science-fiction world that filmmaker James Cameron created much earlier than expected, as the original Avatar will be dropping in Philippine cinemas once again in September.

20th Century Studios originally announced early on August 24th that a remastered version of the 2009 film would be dropping in cinemas for a limited time only. The Philippines rarely gets a similar release roll-out when it comes to these limited screenings, but SM Cinemas later confirmed that the remastered Avatar will also be showing in IMAX cinemas in the Philippines. Guess the studios are channelling that "all of us are connected through the Tree of Souls" energy—and we're here for it, of course, of course.

Here's when the remastered Avatar 2009 movie is dropping in Philippine IMAX cinemas:

The remastered Avatar is showing in Philippine cinemas for two weeks throughout the month of September. While no exact date is specified in SM Cinemas' posts, the remastered version is set to play in the United States starting September 23, so you can expect the Philippine release to be likewise around the end of the month.

The remastered version will be playing in IMAX 3D, where you can experience its 4K high-dynamic range in all its glory. If you hear someone sobbing when the Hometree falls or cheering when Eywa answers the heroes' prayers and sends the animals to save the day, trust that that'll be your resident Spotters. It's been about 13 years since we got to experience the magic in cinemas, you can't blame us.

The remastered film will be showing at SM IMAX Cinemas, so that likely includes Megamall, Mall of Asia, SM City North Edsa, SM Aura, and SM Southmall.
