Dave Bautista Would Be the Perfect Bane, But It Might Be Too Late for the MCU Actor
Dave Bautista was unforgettable as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the actor admits that it’s time to close the door on that phase of his career. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be his last hoorah as Drax as he bids the MCU farewell. All good things come to an end—even superheroes—and Bautista has a number of projects lined up post-Marvel. But one thing that’s not in the cards at the moment? The DC Universe.

Bautista’s Guardians director James Gunn is the new co-head of DC Studios, and Gunn has shared how he isn’t afraid to bring MCU alum to the DCU. Meanwhile, Bautista’s been vocal about how the supervillain Bane is his ultimate dream role, so much so that he even once set up a meeting with Warner Bros. to convince them to let him play Bane.
It seems like a match made in heaven, but things in Hollywood are never as easy as that.
In an interview with Insider, Bautista crushed the hearts of fans when he shared that the new and improved DC likely won’t tap him for Bane.
"I think the direction he's leaning in, completely rebooting that whole universe, he's starting from scratch and starting younger and fresher and I think you need to do that,” said Bautista.
The wrestler-turned-actor is now 54 years old and still at the peak of his physique, but DC’s game plan is looking to be a 10-year commitment. That's a big ask for performers.
"I don't think at this point in my career that I can bring justice to Bane anymore. I just don't know if I could handle the physical part, and I don't think I would have the longevity to plan ahead for films. So, I just don't know if I'd be that guy,” said Bautista.
While Bautista departs from the Marvel franchise, he’s still tied to two mega-franchises in the film world. He’s set to reprise his role as Glossu Rabban in Dune: Part 2 and as Scott Ward in the Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. The DCU might not be in the cards for Bautista yet, but fans still get to see the actor on the big screen soon.
