Everything We Know About Netflix's Live-Action Gundam Movie (So Far)

It's official: We're getting a live-action adaptation of Gundam. We know what you're thinking... yet another American-produced reboot. But, this one is in good hands with Netflix and Legendary Pictures (the same producers as Pacific Rim and Godzilla vs. Kong).
Here's everything we know about Netflix's upcoming live-action adaptation of Gundam.
What is Gundam about?
Any adult that watched his cartoons religiously as a kid already knows what Gundam is about. But, here's a refresher. Gundam is a Japanese franchise that features giant robots, or mecha, with the war between the Principality of Zeon and the Earth Federation as a backdrop.
As to what the movie will be about, however, we'll have to get back to you on that. There's definitely a wealth of material to choose from.
Who is in the cast?
The movie seems to be in the early stages of development, with no cast announced yet, but what we do know is that the adaptation is set to be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. You may know from his work as director of the MonsterVerse film Kong: Skull Island. On Instagram, the director said he was honored and excited to take on the project with Legendary Pictures and Netflix.
While Brian K. Vaughan, known for Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, and Runaways, will handle the screenplay for the movie.
What do the trailers reveal?
The closest thing we have to a trailer is a short teaser from Anime Expo in 2018. It's not much to go on as an announcement trailer, but you can watch it below. As the description says, "Legendary and Sunrise announced today at Anime Expo 2018, plan to co-produce the first-ever live-action feature film version of GUNDAM."
When will Gundam be released?
The official release date is yet to be announced. With the movie still in the early days of development, it will be a while before all that comes to light. For now, Gundam fans can pass the time by watching Mobile Suit Gundam UC on Netflix.
