Guy Ritchie Breaks From His Usual Form in the New Trailer for The Covenant

At this point, all of us know Guy Ritchie for his distinctive style. He's a crime-comedy-action savant who takes on an interesting darker, snappier voice for his storytelling. That's why the trailer for his newest film The Covenant seems like such a departure from his past work. Of course, we're here for it, too.

Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Army Sergeant John Kinley, the military thriller will be debuting in theaters this April. This, too, feels a little out-of-place, considering Ritchie is more of a London kind of guy, as we all know. The plot follows the sergeant, who is saved by his interpreter during a tour in Afghanistan. He, however, still has unfinished business, as he ponders whether or not he should save his guy Ahmed.

“If it wasn’t enough for him to carry me across those mountains, now he’s hiding in a hole somewhere,” Gyllenhaal’s character said in the trailer. “I should be in that hole.”

We're right there with you, sir. Gyllenhaal looks badass already. We are again reminded of the range of this man. He's channeling the same energy he had in Ambulance, Jarhead, and Source Code for this one. Together with the star is a decent cast that includes the likes of Anthony Starr, Bobby Schofield, Sean Sagar, Alexander Ludwig, and Emily Beecham, among others.

Nevertheless, we can expect a risky rescue thriller of epic proportions here. And who can we better trust to give us a hell of a ride than Guy Ritchie, right?
