At 80, Harrison Ford Says Indiana Jones' Only Weakness Is the 'Ravages of Time'
Harrison Ford is back as Indiana Jones...for the last time. For over 40 years, Ford has been the face of one of the most iconic franchises in film history. Indiana Jones is a name that needs no introduction. Indy was the superhero of many of our childhoods, but his run is coming to an end as Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to close the film franchise forever.

Opening in Philippine cinemas on June 28, The Dial of Destiny follows Indy in the last chapter of his life—retirement. An impossible feat to imagine for this unstoppable force of adventure. But the universe has one more epic task for Indiana Jones, involving Greek archaeology… and space. Indy, of course, is up for anything—especially if it means avoiding the prospect of retirement.
The last time we saw Indy was about 15 years ago. In that time, he’s aged somewhat and is on the cusp of returning. In The Dial of Destiny, we’ll meet Indy again on his last day in the academe, which has, unfortunately, not been inspiring for the adrenaline-hungry hero.
“We've demonstrated his strengths over the course of four movies. Now, we're entering into a new phase of his life. We meet him at a point where he's at a low that we have not seen before,” said Harrison Ford during a global press conference.
While Indiana Jones may be getting older, he's still the same beloved character that fans have come to know and love. But this new side of him might just be the best way to close his story as he overcomes perhaps his biggest weakness, which according to Ford, is “the ravages of time.” How he deals with this could be the perfect finale to this lifelong saga.
“I’m an assistant storyteller,” said Ford. “I have felt over 40 years that I have not only come to know this character, but I've come to know my job.”
At 80 years old, Ford has come to realize that Indiana Jones is more than just a job, although he describes acting as a “service occupation.”
“The character means to me what he means to the audience, because that's the service and that's the contract between us,” explained Ford. “I’m obliged to give my best and the story that I want to tell when it's received with the warmth and the generosity that Indiana Jones has over this period of time.”
Despite Indiana Jones’ four decades of success, he doesn’t take any of it for granted. It’s been the role of a lifetime, and Ford knows just how much Indy has impacted the world.
“It's an incredible generosity to me, and I take it personally. It means a great deal to me that people like what we've done, so I hope that they will appreciate this [final] contribution,” said Ford.
