House of the Dragon's Official Teaser Is Out. Here's Everything We Spotted
August 21 can’t come fast enough. In only a few months, Game of Thrones fans will be transported back to the Seven Kingdoms to the time before the Targaryen’s downfall. HBO’s highly anticipated new series House of the Dragon will follow House Targaryen during their bloody and tragic civil war called the Dance of Dragons. It marked the beginning of the end of the family, and its implications led to the plot of Game of Thrones and the eventual madness of the house’s last scion, Daenerys Targaryen.
Suffice to say, we couldn’t be more excited for this prequel show. HBO just dropped the official teaser of the show, and here’s everything the resident GOT nerds at Esquire spotted:
Setting the tone for this tragic tale, the trailer begins with the narrator saying, “What if this brief mortal life if not for the pursuit of legacy?”
Dragonstone makes an appearance, this time as a stronghold of pride instead of an abandoned island.
Daemon (Matt Smith) begins his games with Lady Misery (Sonoya Mizuno) in tow. They appear to be negotiating over a dragon egg, which promises more dragons in the show.
Dragons and Targaryens fly freely over King’s Landing, a contrasting image to the last scene of Daenerys Targaryen—when she burned the city to the ground.
The Iron Throne once had even more swords than we imagined, this time lining a border around the throne.
The first season will cover decades as we see flashbacks of Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) as the newly appointed heir and present footage of her as she fights to maintain her status.
“Men would sooner put the realm to the torch than see a woman ascend the iron throne,” says Rhaenys Velaryon (Eve Best) in the show. A telling theme of the power struggle at the heart of the civil war.
The grand table that Daenerys once stood at makes an appearance, this time two centuries before the events of GOT with another Targaryen queen at the helm.
The cursed halls of Harrenhal no doubt forebode trouble.
Standing behind a young Rhaenyra is Laenor Velaryon, her first husband.
But eventually, Daemon will marry Rhaenyra and set more pieces into motion.
And what is a wedding in the Seven Kingdoms without a funeral?
The trailer closes with an omen, further cementing the Shakespearean tragedy we’re about to watch, “History does not remember blood. It remembers names.”
The cinematography, the scheming, the dragons—we can’t wait to see if House of Dragon lives up to our very high expectations. The first episode will drop in the Philippines on HBO Go and the HBO channel on Monday, August 22 (Philippine time).
