Jennifer Lopez's New Film Shotgun Wedding Is Set in the Fictional 'Mahal Island Resort' in the Philippines
Prime Video’s Shotgun Wedding is the latest movie in the Romcom Revival era, and romcom icons Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel are leading the charge. The two star as Darcy and Tom, an engaged couple who gather their future crazy in-laws for their destination wedding in, you guessed it, the Philippines.
Set in the fictional Mahal Island Resort, Shotgun Wedding takes “till death do us part” to a whole new level when the wedding party is hijacked by Filipino pirates. Romance, comedy, action, and hilarity—Shotgun Wedding has all the makings of a modern romcom hit. And we know we’re definitely tuning in simply because the film is set in the Philippines.

While it might be set on our sunny shores, the film was actually filmed in the Dominic Republic due to travel restrictions at the time of filming. Mahal Resort Island might not exist, but the movie did shoot at a functioning luxury resort called ANI Dominic Republic located in Río San Juan.
Shotgun Wedding’s star-studded cast includes Lenny Kravitz and Jennifer Coolidge, as well as a number of Filipino-American actors such as Alex Mallari Jr. (The Adam Project, Ginny & Georgia), Alberto Isaac (The Cleaning Lady, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), and Ray Raymundo (13 Reasons Why).
