The John Wick Prequel Series Is Coming to Amazon Prime Video

Finally, the franchise expansion we’ve all been waiting for. John Wick is getting a prequel series, and by all reports, it’s going to be epic. Titled The Continental, the John Wick prequel series is expected to premiere globally in 2023 on Amazon Prime Video.

In the U.S., the prequel series will launch on Peacock, but everywhere else, it will launch on Amazon Prime Video.

Fans of Keanu Reeves’ John Wick movies will recognize the name of the show. The Continental refers to the hotel chain that serves as an integral location and plot point in the John Wick movies. It’s the John Wick world’s no man’s land, where hitmen and criminals go about their business in the shadows. And fans will finally learn the origins of the mysterious hotel for assassins.

“The John Wick films have created one of the most immersive, detailed, and enjoyable universes we’ve seen on screen in the last decade,” said Chris Mansolillo, Director, Content Acquisition, Prime Video. “We are extremely proud to play a part in continuing to build that universe, offering viewers an insight into the origins of the infamous Continental Hotel and its incredible characters.”

The Continental will explore the action-packed history of the building through the eyes of a young Winston Scott, who was played by Ian McShane in the films. Colin Woodell will take over the role in the series, joined by Ayomide Adegun as a young Charon, Peter Greene as Uncle Charlie, Mel Gibson as Cormac, Ben Robson as Frankie, Hubert Point-Du Jour as Miles, Jessica Allain as Lou, Mishel Prada as KD, and Nhung Kate as Yen.

Sadly, Keanu Reeves’ character won’t be around in the prequel series, but don’t let that discourage you from tuning in. By now, fans have come to appreciate The Continental as a character in itself. And this prequel show might actually do it justice.
