Everything We Know About The Continental (So Far)
After three long years, the wheels on the John Wick spin-off series we were promised are finally back on track. The highly-anticipated show has been in production limbo thanks to a number of factors—COVID-19 included. The plot is looking to be a promising one based on the new details that have emerged.
Seeing as it is a prequel, we're not going to get a Keanu Reeves cameo. We've got more bad news, though. There will be a bit of (more) wait for the series. The Continental will start production by June which means we're not getting it anytime soon. But, if it's anything like the movies, then it will be worth all the wait.
Here's everything we know about the John Wick spin-off series The Continental so far.
What is the John Wick show going to be about?
The series will be a prequel and it will tell the story of a young Winston, the character played by Ian McShane in the movies. The new details were shared in an interview with Deadline by Lionsgate Television chairman Kevin Beggs. Here's what he had to say about The Continental.
"What we're exploring in The Continental is the young Winston and how it came to be that he and his team of confederates found their way into this hotel which we have met for the first time in the movie franchise 40 years later," Beggs said.
"That's the arena. I won't give away more than that, but Starz really leaned into this take also, and they have been great collaborators. And how we've approached this first season is as three essentially 90-minute events which you could construe as a limited series or a limited event series."
What are fans saying about the news?
Understandably, fans want more of John Wick's character in the series. Several users on Twitter have voiced out that they'd enjoy a prequel about John Wick before the movie, while others are looking forward to seeing what the '70s was like in the world of the franchise. Assassins fighting in flared pants are definitely one of the many things to be excited about.
Who's attached to the series?
The show will be written by Chris Collins who's track record includes Sons of Anarchy, The Wire, The Sopranos, and John Wick: Chapter 3—Parabellum. While the franchise's creative team (director, co-director, producer, and screenwriter) will reportedly act as executive producers. Early reports have also said that Keanu Reeves will act as a producer for the show.
When will the John Wick series debut?
The Continental is still in the early stages of production. With no official cast and trailer, we'll learn more about the series in the coming months (to years). The fourth John Wick film, on the other hand, has a release date for May 27, 2022. So, there's that at least.
