Minecraft Is the Latest Video Game to Get the Hollywood Treatment
The Witcher, Uncharted, Tomb Raider—video games are a rich resource for movie potential, and Hollywood’s big studios know it. The latest video game to get the Hollywood treatment might not be as complex and plot-heavy as the likes of Uncharted and The Witcher, but it’s more than made up for it in terms of popularity. Minecraft will be adapted into a big-budget movie by Warner Bros., but the best part? Jason Momoa will be part iof it.
The Aquaman and Dune actor is teaming up with Warner Bros. once more for the untitled Minecraft project. Dune producer Mary Parent and Roy Lee will produce, while Napoleon Dynamite filmmaker Jared Hess will direct the movie. Also on board are Lydia Winters and Vu Bui, who are part of Sweden’s Mojang Studios, the creators of Minecraft.
In case you live under a rock, Minecraft is one of the most popular video games in the world right now as millions of players are addicted to building structures and worlds in the Minecraft universe. Minecraft’s popularity became so phenomenal that it eventually encouraged Microsoft to acquire the company for $2.5 billion in 2014.
Since Minecraft doesn’t follow the action-adventure storytelling of Uncharted and The Witcher, game players will be unlikely to guess the plot.
Minecraft players, what do you think the movie will be about? Tell us in the comments below.
