Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated film Oppenheimer hits Philippine cinemas on July 19, and we can hardly wait. Oppenheimer is suspected to be Nolan’s magnum opus, which is an impressive feat for a director known for first-class filmmaking. The sweeping historical thriller is his most ambitious and urgent movie to date, and based on the early reviews, the best.

Oppenheimer delves into the mind of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer at the most critical point of his career: his invention of the atomic bomb. To this day, Oppenheimer’s nuclear inventions are highly divisive. On one hand, they’re a testament to human ingenuity, but on the other, they led to the most horrific bombings in history. Oppenheimer’s atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed 129,00-226,000 people, most of whom were merely civilians.
It’s perhaps the most contentious moment in modern history, but Nolan might be the only director worthy enough to take on the monumental undertaking of bringing Oppenheimer’s story to life.
