All good things come to those who wait. Or at least, that’s the motto Netflix producers are living by because Squid Game season two won’t be arriving until late 2023 or 2024.
Squid Game took the world by storm when it was released in 2021, and fans around the world have been eagerly waiting for a continuation of the jaw-dropping cliffhanger in season one. Sadly, fans will have to prepare for a long wait before they get any more episodes of Squid Game as the second season is still in its early phases.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, director Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that he still has to organize three pages worth of ideas before they can finalize the script. And from there, the show will have months more of filming and production before it’s ready to be seen by the world. Late 2023 and 2024 seem like miles away, but let’s not forget that the first season of Squid Game took a decade to make. A long wait will be worth it if the second season lives up to our high expectations.
In the second season of Squid Game, Hwang says that “Humanity is going to be put to a test through those games once again.” Hwang didn’t reveal if season two will follow another round of Squid Game or if it will introduce a whole new plot. But he did hint at his intentions with season two: “I want to ask the question, ‘Is true solidarity between humans possible?’”
These heavy themes are what await us in two to three years' time. Until then, we can comfort ourselves with endless replays of Squid Game season one on Netflix.
