The King is dead. Long live the king… or will it be queen?

Succession Season 4 Episode 3 marked the end of Brian Cox’s incredible run as media mogul/devil incarnate Logan Roy, and he couldn’t have gone a better way. Cox barely had any screen time for his final episode, but his presence was a weight that even viewers could feel. There’s a lot to unpack from Episode 3, from Logan Roy’s anticlimactic demise, which mirrored the quiet, eerie reality of death in real life, to the Roy kids’ heartbreaking responses, which explored the different stages of grief.

With the title Succession, viewers always suspected that Logan Roy would bite the dust eventually, but no one expected it to happen so soon. With hindsight, this might have been the best decision to give the show time to actually settle the succession, but that didn’t stop us from being blindsided by Roy’s sad, lonely death in an airplane bathroom.

And yet, HBO teased Logan Roy’s death weeks before it actually happened. In a very Shakespearean fashion, a spoiler has been right in front of our eyes this whole time. Succession posters have always hidden Easter eggs, but this one might be the biggest bombshell yet. Because right in the smack damn middle of the Season 4 poster, not so far from Logan Roy’s head, is an airplane. And we’d bet our money that it’s the same airplane where Logan Roy died after locking himself in the plane bathroom.

That might not have been the only foreboding that HBO hid in its Succession posters. Brian Cox’s solo poster has him standing in a suspiciously boring pose compared to his other co-stars… as if Logan’s lying down in a casket instead of standing up.

If we take a longer look at the other Succession posters, it’s interesting to note that Logan only appears in the reflection of two of his children: Kendall and Roman, hinting that perhaps one of his sons will win the succession war. Meanwhile, Shiv and Tom’s reflections both show Tom turning away from Shiv, hinting at a potential portrayal, while Connor’s poster shows his shadow completely turned away from him, similar to the way he tends to stay out of his family’s corporate scheming.

But who knows. Succession has a way of blindsiding us at every turn. Because seriously, who could actually believe that a titan like Logan Roy, who once shouted, “I’m a hundred fee tall,” could die such an ignoble death? In the end, Roy was humbled by his own mortality.

Watch Succession only on HBO Go in the Philippines.
