The Sandman's Star-Studded Audiobooks Deserve as Much Hype as the Netflix Show

Get ready for more Sandman. Audible just dropped The Sandman: Act III in a surprise release.

Still dealing with Sandman withdrawals? Netflix’s hit adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novels enraptured the world, but there’s still no word on whether a second season is in the works. Our hopes are high, but it could be years before we see Tom Sturridge don Morpheus’ black coat again.

Until then, we’ve found the perfect balm for your soul: the audiobooks. Audible just dropped the third act of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman audio drama, and the entire Audible series deserves as much hype as the show, in our book. Acts I, II, and III are now available on the audiobook platform, and you can binge-listen to them all for just $14.95 (P881) per month or even for free if you’re creating a new account.

Created by Neil Gaiman and Dirk Maggs, the audio saga had an easier time getting adapted despite the fact that Gaiman is notoriously protective of his work getting adapted. The Sandman: Act I was first released in 2020 with a star-studded cast, which featured James McAvoy as Morpheus, Riz Ahmed as the Corinthian, Kat Dennings as Death, Taron Egerton as John Constantine, Michael Sheen as Lucifer, and of course, Neil Gaiman as the Narrator.

Act II welcomed even more big names to the cast, such as Emma Corrin as Thessaly, Mirriam Margolyes as Despair, Bill Nighy as Odin, Rege Jean Page as Orpheus, David Tennant as Loki, and Jeffrey Wright as Destiny. Act III, which was just dropped, introduces David Harewood as Destruction and Billy Boyd as Petrefax.

“The excitement and the joy people have taken in the astonishing Audible adaptations of Sandman has been such a morale booster over the last few years,” said Gaiman on the release. “The only downside has been that everyone I know, and many thousands of people on social media that I don’t know, have wanted to know when Act III would be released. Now you all know. I think it might be the best one yet.”

Act I covers Preludes & Nocturnes, The Doll’s House, and Dream Country; Act II covers Season of Mists, Distant Mirrors, A Game of You, and Convergence; and Act III covers Brief Lives and Worlds Ends. The audio saga is now just one act away from completing all of Gaiman’s works.

The Sandman audio saga is Audible’s best-selling original audiobooks ever, just as the Netflix show is Netflix’s most popular show ever. Clearly, whatever Gaiman adapts is gold.
