The Weeknd Set to Make Feature Film Debut With Barry Keogan and Jenna Ortega

It looks like Abel is just toying around with us at this point. He seems like he's bored these days. So the pop star is entering unfamiliar territory: he is set to perform in his first starring role in a film that he also happened to write and produce.

This untitled project will be The Weekend’s feature film debut. And he's got some pretty big stars to help him out. Joining him is Wednesday star Jenna Ortega and Oscar nominee Barry Keogan, best known for The Banshees of Inisherin and The Killing of a Sacred Deer. It's as random a trio as it gets, really.

The Weeknd reportedly co-wrote the film with Waves writer-director Trey Edward Shults, who is set to direct the movie himself. We will also reportedly get to hear the work of Dawn FM collaborator Oneohtrix Point Never for the movie. He's the same artist who did the score for Uncut Gems and Good Time.

This film is the singer’s second venture into movies and television, after (whenever) The Idol on HBO comes out. The Weekend is listed as a co-creator for the flick together with Sam Levinson from Euphoria and business partner Reza Fahim.

Details about the story or even the script are yet to be released. But if there's anything we can expect from The Weeknd, we just know it's going to be bonkers.

Hey, we already saw some of those acting chops in After Hours, after all. We can’t forget his cameo in Uncut Gems, too. The man literally wrapped his face in bandages, too, for the AMAs and way back when. And how about his Superbowl performance in 2021? (seems so long ago now, right?). So we can expect to see a natural here. Just starboy things, we guess.
