DC Fans Need to Chill Out. Even Zack Snyder Is On Board With James Gunn's DCU Plans
The DCU fandom can be… intense. That’s one way of putting it. We saw just how passionate they were when Warner Bros. finally released Zack Snyder’s Justice League and when the Snyderverse officially came to an end. That said, given their devotion to Snyder’s first DC films, it’s not surprising that they haven’t been too keen on James Gunn’s plans to revive the DCU.

Gunn, the new co-CEO of DC Studios, revealed his 10-year master plan for the DCU a few weeks ago, and while DC Studios’ upcoming projects sound exciting, it’s still not enough to appease Snyder’s most zealous supporters. Recently, #SellTheSnyderverseToNetflix trended on Twitter, the latest fan campaign to keep Zack Snyder’s DC films alive. And James Gunn’s response to it pretty much sums up our own:
“I have to say, this has got to be the wackiest hashtag ever,” tweeted Gunn, adding that neither Netflix nor Zack have expressed any interest in moving Snyder’s DC films to the platform.
It’s time for the Snyder fans, us included, to realize: the Snyderverse has long been dead. It’s time for DC Studios to usher in a new era, and even Snyder himself agrees, according to Gunn.
“He contacted me to express his support about my choices. He’s a great guy. Again, he seems really happy with the massive world-building he’s doing now,” tweeted Gunn.
It’s 2023, guys. Not 2017. Let the DCU evolve. And more importantly, leave Snyder alone. The filmmaker left the DCU when tragedy struck his family, and he’s moved on to new projects since then. After departing from Warner Bros., Snyder’s been closely collaborating with Netflix on a number of projects, such as the zombie film Army of the Dead in 2021 and the upcoming sci-fi epic Rebel Moon scheduled for December 22, 2023.
As for the DCU, there’s plenty in store to be excited about. It might not be the DCU we’re familiar with, but we’re holding out hope that it might be even better.
