Filipino Gymnast Carlos Yulo Bags Second Gold at Paris Olympics 2024

Just a day after a big win in the Men's Floor Exercise at the Paris Olympics, Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo bagged another medal for his routine at the Men's Vault held on Sunday, August 4 (22:24, Manila time).

To date, Yulo is the only Filipino athlete to win more than one Olympic gold medal.

All eight athletes on the final round of the Men's Vault are given two runs, with the final score an average of both.

For the first vault run, the Filipino gymnast got a total score of 15.433, with a difficulty of 6.000 and execution of 9.433; and a total score of 14.800 on the second vault, with a difficulty of 5.600 and execution of 9.200. This gave him a total score of 15.116, immediately putting him in first place after his run. But Yulo performed fourth, which meant he had to wait and see if anyone else would beat his score. And, once again, no one did.

Artur Davytan from Armenia and Harry Hepworth from Great Britain won silver and bronze, respectively.

As of writing, the medal count for the Philippines at the Paris Olympics 2024 is two gold, both from Yulo. Our Filipina boxers, Nesthy Petecio (Women's 57kg) and Aira Villegas (Women's 50kg), already have guaranteed bronze medals and are going into the semi-finals for a shot at more gold.

All Olympic gold medalists are entitled to P10 million and an Olympic Gold Medal of Valor from the Philippine Sports Commission. Silver medalists are entitled to P5 million, while bronze medalists are entitled to P2 million.
