Why Is Lewis Hamilton Moving to Ferrari?

After a highly successful run with Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton might be seeking his next world driver’s championship title with another team. Multiple news sites have reported that the seven-time world champion moving to Ferrari for the Formula One 2025 season despite signing a two-year contract with Mercedes’ F1 team. If the move does happen, Hamilton is said to be replacing Carlos Sainz, Jr., who, in turn, is moving to new F1 team Audi. 

We can only speculate why talks of moving to Ferrari have revived. Both Mercedes and Ferrari have confirmed Hamilton's move. Esquire Philippines first reported about the possible move with a $50million offer from the Italian race team last year.

With Ferrari arguably being one of the most iconic teams in F1 history, this could be the team that offers a unique opportunity for Hamilton to rewrite his own history by setting a new record eighth world championship title, which Mercedes failed to give Hamilton over the last two seasons reportedly because of poor car performance. If Ferrari can make significant strides in performance and become a more competitive team by next year, Hamilton could benefit from this resurgence.

"To leave was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. But the time is right for me to take this step and I'm excited to be taking on a new challenge. I am 100% committed to delivering the best performance I can thi season and making my last year with the Silver Arrows one to remember."
