Every year, Esquire Philippines' Man at His Best (MAHB) awards honors extraordinary Filipinos who are reshaping society. These are the men and women who are raising the bar for Filipino creatives, athletes, public servants, and professionals.

This year, we're celebrating eight modern-day heroes and icons in film, music, sports, business, politics, and journalism. From music legends Eraserheads to award-winning journalist Atom Araullo, we present the 2022 awardees who exemplify what it means to be a Man at His Best.

Meet Esquire's Entertainer of the Year, Alden Richards.

When I was starting, I really took this job as a paying job. I [was] just doing it for the money. Two years into it, after certain projects, parang nai-iba na yung perception ko sa kanya. It's not really a mere rent-paying job or bill-paying job, it fills up my passion and feeds my soul. Ganun na siya. And, up to today, as we speak, I don't really look at it as a paying job anymore.

For the 11 years I've been in the industry, lagi lang ako nandito sa harap so what really (piques) my curiosity is what's really happening behind. How to be a producer. How to be a director. How to be someone to mount a show.

Ang laking bagay din talaga ng foundation ko as an actor before venturing into business and the corporation that I have now.

For me, really, what's thinkable is possible.

If you feel like it's gonna happen, it will happen but you have to start with step one.

A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.

What's thinkable is possible.

Never be afraid to fail. I really don't believe in the word failure. It's either you be successful in the venture that you ventured in or you just learn from it. You don't fail.

'Yung pagpasok sa industry, it's very difficult. Kung failures lang bibilangin, mas madami yung failures kesa sa success and acceptance.

There are no failures, only lessons learned.

You've got to deal with the right people if you want to make something happen.

In this industry, ang hirap magtiwala. It's very difficult to trust people right now, even in other businesses and in other countries. You just have to really be careful.

Okay maging careful but be a risk-taker as well because you'll never know unless you try.

Never get tired of aspiring, never get tired of dreaming, and being able to try new things.

People can only advise you so much but, at the end of the day, kailangan mo siyang pagdaanan personally.

Be ready for what life has to offer you. Not everything will go according to plan.

When I was young, whenever we would go to the mall hindi kami makabili ng laruan. So, now that everything's going very well [...] at least nabili ko na sila coming from the childhood experiences that I had.

It's your choice talaga if you don't want to be single anymore pero huwag mo ipilit, that's one thing I've learned. Huwag mong ipilit kung hindi pa time. There's always a perfect time for that.

Invest in yourself first. Love yourself first. Self-love is the priority.

I'd rather have a lot of skills and expertise rather than have a lot of money.

The reason why I'm doing [AR Foundation Inc.] is for me to be able to help more people.

Nandun yung fulfillment ko. Changing someone's life, for me, that's priceless.

I live by the moment. I live by the day. From there, that's when I'll decide kung saan ako papunta.

Never think of yourself that you're too good. You're already good enough no matter how many successful projects you have, awards that you get—that's the death of an actor, if you already acknowledge it to yourself, 'ah magaling na ako.'

I'm very happy whenever I feel nervous—before performances, concerts, scenes, and guestings. It's alright to be nervous kasi, at the end of the day, alam mo naman yung dapat mong gawin. You just have to be true to yourself.

It always boils down to sincerity. You have to be sincere. Everything that you say and everything that you do, it's the sincerity that really counts. People will see it.
