This Luxury Resort in Mactan is Keen on Making Cebu the Ideal Place to Get Hitched

A luxury resort in Cebu is helping lead the charge to make the province a key wedding destination, offering its gorgeous beachfront and intimate venue options for couples wanting to tie the knot.

Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan has only recently bounced back from the devastation wrought by super typhoon Odette (globally known as Rai) in 2021. The 15 year-old property owned by the Filinvest Group of the Gotianun family was forced to close down when the onslaught hit after suffering from extensive damage. Crimson also has hotels in Manila and Boracay.

Despite this and after reopening in June last year, Crimson Mactan has seen an increase in bookings for intimate weddings, said Carmela Bocanegra, vice president for sales and marketing at Chroma Hospitality, Inc, the company that manages Crimson Mactan.

“(The hospitality industry) has already recovered from the pandemic and from Odette,” she told Esquire Philippines, without elaborating on the specific increase in bookings. “But we would like to be more bullish in terms of moving forward this year and next year. Not just in Cebu, but in the country, the Philippines in general.”

Weddings by Crimson, which showcases the resort’s nuptial offerings, was first launched in their branch in Filinvest City in Manila, while another showcase event was held in their Boracay resort.

Bocanegra said there has been a significant 20-percent revenue growth from all their hotels at Chroma Hospitality, specificcally in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) services year-to-year since 2016.

She emphasized that the Crimson brand 100 percent Filipino-owned. Crimson Mactan has also been consistently recognized as a Michelin Guide-listed hotel and resort for a number of years. . The Michelin Guide Hotel Selection publishes a curated list of more than 6,000 hotels in more than 130 countries based on fair pricing and service.

Last year, Philippine tourism receipts topped P760 billion, up 9.04 percent from a year earlier and going over the pre-pandemic level of P600.01 billion in 2019.

The Department of Tourism and the Philippine Hotel Owners Association, Inc. earlier launched its Hotel Industry Strategic Action Plan 2023-2028, which aims to close the Philippines’ hotel room accommodations gap of 120,463 by 2028.

A Beachfront Paradise For Intimate Ceremonies

The draw to getting married at Crimson Mactan is the tropical and beachfront experience and nearby homely garden venues for intimate receptions beneath the stars at the same resort.

Attendees could also grab intricate cocktails and diverse culinary offerings at the Azure Beach Club, which also boasts rustic tables and understated seats under the sky.

Right beside the pristine beach side of the resort is the Kalma Garden, which is often fashioned to be a chic pre-reception cocktail venue or reception area.

At the Weddings by Crimson event at the Mactan resort, globally renowned fashion designer Furne Amato kicked off a bridal fashion show with designs fit for royalty and the individualistic.

“His exquisite designs mirror the sophistication and individuality we bring to every wedding. Together we celebrate love with world-class flair rooted in local pride,” Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan General Manager Patrick Manthe said.

Crimson Mactan is also set to launch an Online Bridal Fair on May 15 and will run until June 15, with participating couples entitled to curated perks such as gourmet canapés, P25,000 worth of bar drinks at reception, P15,000 bar credits for cocktail hours or after parties, and a couple’s massage at Aum Spa, among others.

“We unveil not just a culmination of an idea, but a promise we've held from the beginning to make every couple's dream wedding come to life in beautiful settings in our hotels and resorts,” Bocanegra said.
