The Seven Filipinas in Fortune's 2024 Most Powerful Women in Asia

American global business magazine Fortune just released its list of 100 Most Powerful Women in Asia, an annual ranking of female business leaders from finance, energy, transportation, food and beverages, and hospitality. It recognizes women who are "redefining the concept of leadership by transforming companies, disrupting industries and driving growth, innovation and business excellence, whilst inspiring their teams, peers, industries and the next generation of leaders," according to Fortune's website.

The list was first published in 1998, a time when the industry was still dominated by men. Almost three decades later, the Most Powerful Women Asia (MPW Asia) hopes to "redefine the concept of leadership in the diverse and dynamic region" of the Asia-Pacific. The 2024 MPW Asia executives come from 11 nations, including China, India, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Australia. More than half are CEOs, 26 of them are Chairpersons, and 11 are Chief Financial Officers. Thirteen of them head national or regional divisions of multinational firms. More than 10 percent of them are entrepreneurs.

In a press statement, Alyson Shontell, Fortune Editor-in-Chief and Chief Content Officer, said: "Since its inception, the Most Powerful Women in business list has served as a powerful reminder of the tremendous impact women leaders continue to have in shaping business today. They are not just adapting to change; they are driving meaningful transformation."

Fortune's methodology for the ranking entailed nominations, "yet a nomination is not required to be featured in the list." The compilation and ranking was an "editorial endeavor," in which the team took into consideration five things: size of an executive's business' strategic vision; driving innovation, investment, and disruption; influence on her organization, industry, and the economy; and reputation and impact.
