Local water concessionaire Maynila Water Services (PSE:MYNLD) has officially made its debut as a publicly listed company in the Philippine Stock Exchange. It's a crucial listing as the PSE index struggles to improve its reported status as the world's worst-performing stock index.

This is the biggest listing since 2021's Monde Nissin Corp IPO. The water company raised P34.3 billion pesos or about $590 million at P15 per share.

The debut is also just the second listing of 2025 after Cebu-based fuel retailer Top Line Business Development Corp.'s P732.6 million offering in April.

The Philippines is facing a $226 billion stock market struggle, with the Maynilad IPO seen as a litmus test of investor sentiments in the country. The move is also expected to spur excitement within the local business and investor community as the government also grapples with external pressures and inflationary risks.

Based on data from the PSE, Maynilad's stock opened at P15 matching the offer price, and last traded at P14.98 or down 0.13 percent with an intraday range of P14.98 to the offer price. The benchmark PSEI also dropped by 0.7 percent.

The provider earlier set an offer price at P20 per share, but cut it to P15Ā  per share after investor feedback, for the debut that aims to fosterĀ public participation while ensuring everything was above board and that the company has complied with all regulatory processes.

The company offered as many asĀ 1.66 billion common shares to the public and 24.9 million in primary shares for First Pacific Co. Ltd, with an overallotment option of as many as 249.05 million shares. The IPO will also have an upsize option of 357.4 million secondary shares, which could potentially bring the total offer to 2.29 billion shares.

The Securities and Exchange Commission gave the go signal for the IPO last June, with the company setting the debut for July. Maynilad postponed it last month to allow more cornerstone investors to grasp how the provider goes about its business.

Under law and the company's 25-year legislative franchise, Maynilad must list it shares by January 2027 and to go public with at least 30 pecent of its outstanding capital stock.

"So truly, Maynilad’s public listing signals what I have been telling the world: that the Philippines is open, ready, and eager to do business with you," President Marcos says.
