15 Filipinos on Forbes Billionaires List 2020; Villar is Richest in the Country
Fifteen Filipinos are among the richest individuals on earth, according to the Forbes Billionaire’s List for 2020.
At the top is former Senator Manny Villar (70 years old) who is at number 286 with a net worth of $5.6 billion, followed by ports king Enrique Razon, 60, at number 565 with $3.4 billion.
The late Henry Sy’s children Hans (64) and Herbert (63) Sy are in a 72-way tie at 1063 with $2 billion, followed by siblings Harley (60) and Henry Sy Jr., (67 ), and Alliance Global Corp. Chair Andrew Tan (67) along with 58 others at number 1135 with $1.9 billion each.
The rest of the Filipinos on the list include Tessie Sy-Coson (69) at number 1,196 with $1.8 billion; Roberto Ongpin (83), Lucio Tan (85) and Tony Tan Caktiong (67) all with a net worth of $1.7 billion to place them at number 1,267; Elizabeth Sy (67) at 1,335 with $1.6 billion; Ramon Ang (66) at 1,513 with $1.4 billion; Robert Coyiuto, Jr. (67) at 1,513 with $1.4 billion; and Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco (84) at 1,990 with $1 billion.
According to Forbes, the world’s richest people were not immune to the coronavirus. The American business magazine counted “only” 2,095 billionaires this year, 58 less than last year. Some 226 individuals who were initially on the list also did not make the cut as billionaires 12 days later, when the publication finalized the list.
More than half, or 51 percent, of the world’s billionaires saw their fortunes decrease compared to the year before.
Amazon founder, president and CEO Jeff Bezos, 56, retained the title of world’s richest man with an eye-popping net worth of $113 billion. Forbes noted that he had already given his wife Mackenzie Bezos $36 billion in their divorce settlement, placing her on the list.
Bill Gates, 64, is at number two, with $98 billion, while 71-year-old Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH, the world’s largest luxury good company, moved into third place with $76 billion.
The rest of the top 10 includes Warren Buffett (89) with $67.5 billion, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison (75) with $59 billion, Amancio Ortega (84), who owns the Zara fashion chain, with $55.1 billion, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (35), with $54.7 billion, and Jim (71), Alice (70) and Rob (75) Walton, heirs to the Walmart retail chain with $54.6 billion, $54.4 billion, and $54.1 billion respectively.
A few notable newcomers in the list are Eric Yuan (50), founder and CEO of Zoom Video Communications, with a net worth of $5.5 billion; Brothers Dmitry (34) and Igor (38) Bukhman, brothers from Russia who founded online gaming company Playrix, which is behind app games like Homescapes and Fishdom, with $3.1 billion each; and Kim Jung-woong (45), who founded beauty company JM Solution.
