5 Things You Need to Know About the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge Project
Totaling 32.1 kilometers, the P3.6-billion project, which is supported by the ADB, was already at 55-percent overall completion back in September. It's part of the state's decentralization efforts to reduce traffic and commuter woes in Metro Manila and Central and Southern Luzon. The North Channel Bridge and South Channel Bridges span 400 meters and 900 meters, respectively.
The Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge will look to connect the Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog regions through Correigdor Island. This means that the four-lane bridge can drastically cut travel time between the two provinces from five hours to just 40 minutes.
According to Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan last year, the bridge should provide us with “new expansion and economic growth opportunities outside of the metropolis with investors now setting up industries leading to the route of promising new land and marine viaduct highway to be built between Regions 3 and 4A."
This bridge is an ambitious project that was first proposed in the '80s, and is now finally coming to fruition. The alignment goes from the Timalan Balsahan shoreline in Naic, Cavite to the Alas-Asin land area in Mariveles, Bataan, which would pass through the historic Corregidor Island.
