Many ABS-CBN stars were disappointed by the recent cease and desist orders (CDO) issued by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to ABS-CBN Corporation and Sky Cable Corporation on June 30.

One demands for the closure of Sky Cable Direct, while the other demands the closure of TV Plus programs.

Starting Tuesday night, DZMM Television, Jeepney TV, Yey !, CineMo, Asianovela Channel, and Kapamilya Box Office will no longer air on TV Plus boxes in Metro Manila.

At the franchise renewal hearing in Congress on Monday, June 29, NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba asserted that the previous CDO on May 5 covered the network's digital platforms.

As a result, Cordoba was ordered by certain congressmen to immediately issue a CDO to TV Plus and SKY Direct, SKY Cable's satellite cable service.

SKY Cable is also owned by ABS-CBN Corporation.

Expired Franchise Covers TV Plus, Sky Direct

The first CDO was released a day after ABS-CBN's 25-year legislative franchise expired on May 4, 2020.

The congressmen emphasized that the TV Plus operation was illegal since May 5.

Another CDO on Tuesday was directed at SKY Direct.

According to the new order, the ABS-CBN franchise and Sky Cable franchise expired “to install, operate, and maintain a Direct Broadcast Satellite Service,” such as SKY Direct.
