"Martial law creates a false sense of security" –Associate Justice Marvic Leonen

On July 5, 11 Supreme Court Justices voted to dismiss the petitions that questioned the legality of President Rodrigo Duterte’s martial law declaration in Mindanao; three Justices voted to partially grant petitions, while one Justice voted to grant petitions—Associate Justice Marvic Mario Victor Leonen.

After the Supreme Court voted to uphold martial law, social media has been abuzz with arguments for either approving and dissenting against the outcome. Amid all the noise, a bit of reason stands out: Leonen.
