The Best- and Not-Very-Best-Dressed Men at the 2019 ABS-CBN Ball

It's that time of the year again, the ABS-CBN Ball, when the country's biggest stars convene to celebrate the industry and party all night while donning their best formalwear. As the biggest celebrity party of the year, it's understandable that many attendees take risks and experiment with looks. And while it is technically the right time and place, it does make for some truly questionable looks. (Just take a look at last year's list.)

That said, let's not forget those who consistently do it right. And maybe applaud those who at least made an effort to stand out? Here's a list of the evening's least-offensive looks and some that took it entirely too far.

You can never go wrong with a standard barong, and this just has the right amount of whimsy with the Peter Pan collar.

Paulo Avelino

Yet another example of a good barong.

James Reid

You have to at least give it to James Reid for always flexing his style in different directions year after year.

Daniel Padilla

The striped suit, the chain bit, and the piña tie were all risks that paid off in spades.

Enrique Gil

It's not quite perfect but it does the job for the evening.

Jericho Rosales

The embroidered barong works but we're not convinced with the amount of ankle-grazing.

Don't get us wrong, we're all for experimental but something about the mid-panel of this barong just throws us off.

Richard Gutierrez

Here's a subtler version of the his brother's sash which we can get on board with.

Edward Barber

Really can't rave enough about the theatricality of it all, but we don't know how to feel about that extra-long belt loop.

The Mandarin collar. Done right.

It has to be said: the all-black was a safe choice.

Again with the all-black. But for some reason, this works simply as it is.

This almost looks like something out of a period film. And we mean that in the best way possible.

Robi Domingo

The actor and host takes a page from Manuel Quezon's playbook—and it pays off.

Enchong Dee

Gentlemen, don't forget to take your pants in.

A good pair of boots would have taken this from strange to eccentric in a Johnny Depp kind of way.
