These James Bond Swim Trunks are Playful and Dashing

Take your pick: Thunderball or Dr. No?

There is nothing on the beach that separates the men from the boys quite so finally as their choice of swimwear. Brit sportswear brand Orlebar Brown was founded on the notion that shapeless, knee-length board shorts or skimpy lycra “budgie smugglers” were not quite comme il faut for young men of taste, and founder Adam Brown has built a strong brand since 2007 on the simple notion that swimshorts should be well-enough made to take you from poolside to beach bar without loss of face.

The brand’s secret was to adapt the patterns used for tailored pants—with as many as 17 separate pieces, including four separate shaped pieces in the waistband. The range has since expanded to a full-fledged collection for resorts and beyond.

One can imagine—had the brand been around in the early '60—such a resolutely sartorial approach appealing to James Bond. So it's perhaps fitting that Orlebar Brown's latest capsule range, available now, is the first in a series of tie-ups with Bond film franchise-creator Eon Productions.

The four-piece debut features memorable poster art from four early, and suitably tropical, Bond movies: Dr. No, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, and Live and Let Die

The new prints all feature on Orlebar Brown's best-selling Bulldog style. And as it turns out, this isn't the first time the Bond franchise has dallied with OB; Daniel Craig wore the Setter style in Skyfall, and it provided a lasting boost to the brand’s popularity.
