How To Look Cool In A V-Neck Sweater, According to Ryan Gosling
Want to strike fear into heart of a style-savvy man? Simply whisper the words “V-neck collar” into his ear and watch him recoil into his cashmere rollneck like a startled tortoise. Well, any style-savvy man other than Ryan Gosling, that is.
The First Man star has been on a mission to breathe new life into this divisive piece of knitwear. And you know what? With his latest ‘70s-inspired look at San Sebastian Film Festival, he’s only gone and bloody well done it.
Pictured on the seafront alongside co-star Claire Foy, Gos gave us a masterclass in pairing knitwear and tailoring. Teaming a perfectly-fitting navy blue suit with a patterned V-neck sweater to glorious effect. The secret to his success lies in some very tasteful color matching between yellow and blue. Not to mention a touch of subtle styling in the shape of a white undershirt peeking out from under the neckline and complemented by his signature pendant.
And it’s not the first time We’ve seen the actor pull a sartorial stunt of this sort. In fact, over the course of the past year, Gosling has rocked the suit and V-neck sweater look on a number of occasions, with increasing frequency.
It’s the sort of thing you might have previously clocked Donald Glover wearing and thought: “Man, I really wish I could pull that off.” However, seeing Gosling in a slightly more low-key variation is a reminder that wearing this sort of thing is not beyond the realms of possibility for the average guy and proof, whether you like it or not, that the V-neck sweater is back.
