What's a Tie Bar and Do You Really Need It?

It's all about accessorizing.

The concept of a tie bar is simple. Its main purpose is to keep your tie in place. And adding sharpness to your look is just a bonus. What to know:

1| WHERE

A good estimate of where to place your tie bar is between your third and fourth button, right below your pectoral muscles.

2| HOW

Secure the tie bar by fastening both ends of your tie to your shirt placket.

3| SIZE

Your tie bar should always be around three-fourths of your tie's width and never wider.

4| THE DON'TS

We do not recommend wearing your tie bar with sweaters, waistcoats, or any garment that would actually serve the purpose of securing your tie—that would defeat its purpose.

5| THE KINDS

Pinch clasps (lower) were for most ties, but for thinner ties, we recommend slide clasps as they lie flatter and don't pop out as much due to the fabric's thickness.
