WATCH: Mariana Zobel de Ayala Aboitiz Chats With Her Father and Uncle on Working With Millennials
They might be some of the busiest men in the country, but brothers Jaime Augusto and Fernando Zobel de Ayala always manage to find the time to engage with their market. Through a video series called “Conversations with Ayala Leaders,” the Ayala Corporation bigwigs join Mariana Zobel de Ayala Aboitiz in a casual chat about how the 185-year-old company is making an impact on the next generation.
In a video entitled “Working With the Woke Generation,” Ayala President and COO Fernando acknowledges how millennials' desire to work toward a social good relates to the corporation’s values. “We think we’ve created a workplace that people like belonging to,” he says. “They see the impact that they can have in the country and I’m finding actually that more and more young people are really looking for the types of jobs that have impact on people’s lives.”
Ayala Chairman and CEO Jaime Augusto adds that the appeal of working with an Ayala-run company also has something to do with belonging to a community. He says: “The fact that we’re a group is also a tremendous asset. We can create a spirit of community as a group while we work together to address needs. That’s a very powerful thing. We hope that the younger generation moving up will feel comfortable working across industries and across companies to be able to harness that collective spirit to do good.”

As the voice of the generation in question, JAZA’s eldest child, now the deputy head of Ayala Malls, wraps up the session. She observes that the company's clarity in goals is what appeases the restless millennial employee. “What Ayala has going for itself is kind of this idea of a very clear vision and that kind of clarity and purpose is something that our generation is looking [for],” Mariana says.
This is one of two videos released in the series so far. The second video tackles the corporation's 2018 in review. “What's significant to us is that we're participating in the change if the country,” Jaime Augusto notes.
